Fire destroys 1.2 million square feet Walmart in Indiana - smoke could be seen from space, ash rained down miles away

Total devastation. Very fortunate, all 1,000 employees got out without reported injuries. One firefighter was injured, though. Officials at a press conference said this was an e-commerce facility and had a state-of-the-art fire suppression system that was fully functioning. ATF is there investigating. The US EPA came down from Chicago to do air monitoring and give advice.

"Everything was working appropriately, but this has such a heavy fire load that it overtook our crews and our ability to extinguish that fire safely," Plainfield Fire Chief Brent Anderson said. "It sounds like there was lots of clothing in the area where the fire started, wrapped in plastic and such."
