Bird flu on Åland
Published: Friday, July 1, 2022 - 14:34 Updated: Friday, July 1, 2022 - 16:07

The bird flu, H5N1, is now found on Åland. The National Food Administration states this after establishing a virus presence in two Åland sea eagle chicks.
David Abrahamsson

There is no treatment for H5N1. Therefore, it is now important that domestic bird herds are protected from infection and that dead birds are handled with care.

The advice from the provincial government is not to touch dead birds, but to bury them without touching them. Eleven cases of bird flu have been detected in Finland so far this year.
