Fiji prepares precautions for swine flu

Updated Fri May 29, 2009 4:11pm AEST

Seventy cruise liners are expected to visit Fiji within the next few months, and a task force has been set up to ensure that proper health checks are carried out at all ports of entry.

Just yesterday, the Dawn Princess arrived in Suva with more than 2,000 passengers on board, and health officials were at Kings Wharf conducting checks before tourists were allowed to enter.

Fiji desperately needs its tourist dollars, and is now ensuring that swine flu does not hit the country.

Vijay Narayan spoke to Tourism Fiji's Patrick Wong, and he began by asking him what measures are in place to ensure that any person carrying the virus is detected.
