Argentina: Health Minister Resignation amid swine flu outbreak

BUENOS AIRES - The Health Minister Graciela Ocana submitted his resignation Monday amid the post questioning the handling of the epidemic of swine flu, said the chief cabinet Sergio Massa.
The resignation was confirmed by Massa during a brief press conference at the government house in which he avoided referring to the reasons for that decision to take Oca?a.
"On this day the president (Cristina Fernandez) has accepted the resignation and will be replaced by Dr. Juan Luis Manzur," said Massa.
Massa noted that the Coordinating Unit report called new measures to prevent the disease, amid rumors of the local press on the possible declaration of the national health emergency.
According to the latest official part broadcast Friday by the Health Ministry, 26 people have died from influenza A, making Argentina in the South American country with the largest number of fatalities as a result of the disease.
Meanwhile, the institute's laboratory ANLIS public-Malbr?n, which analyzes samples taken from patients around the country, so far 1587 has been confirmed positive cases.
Oca?a management had already suffered a severe setback early this year following the rapid spread of dengue, especially in the north, which revealed a lack of preventive health policy.
Oca?a also had a strong dispute with the unions for control of the welfare funds.
