Abbiamo analizzato 12 campioni (7 clinici e 5 da soggett entrati in contatto con pazienti) provenienti dalla Guinea per un caso di sospetta epidemia da febbre emorragica virale.

Abbiamo identificato il virus Ebola in 6 campioni (da casi clinici) utilizzando saggi RT-PCR, mentre le procedure per l?isolamento del virus sono in corso.

La sequenza genetica di vari frammenti virali amplificati ? ancora in corso alfine di meglio caratterizzare il patogeno coinvolto.

La sequenza di una porzione del gene ??L?? gi? mostra una forte affinit? con il ceppo Ebolavirus ??Zaire??, suggestiva di un coinvolgimento di questa specie nell?epidemia. Ci? corrisponde anche ai rapporti di una elevata mortalit? fra I casi.
