FDA to get Israeli 3rd vax data since, apparently, protection wanes after 5 months in Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine

Is Pfizer Vaccine to Blame for Israel’s High COVID Infection Rate?
by Ryan Jones
Top media personality slams disregard for Israeli study showing vaccinated more likely to be infected than those with natural antibodies

September 2, 2021
Israelis are frustrated by the fact that their nation has one of the highest COVID-19 vacation rates (over 60 percent are fully vaccinated, and 25 percent have already had a booster), and yet is also leading the world in daily rate of new infections.

Israel has been logging over 10,000 new infections daily this week, with a positive test rate of around 7%. Many countries no longer consider Israel to be “green” on the COVID scale. By comparison, the United States has been registering about half the number of new daily infections per capita (around 900 per million citizens for Israel, just 450 per million for the US).

A new study suggests that Israel’s high vaccination rate could be at least partially to blame for the current spike in coronavirus infections.

The study was carried out last month by Israel’s Maccabi Healthcare Services (one of the local HMOs), and the results were featured in the leading scientific journals Science and Nature. (See: Why is Israel Still Giving COVID Boosters if the WHO Said to Stop?) But it really garnered attention on social media this week when veteran Israeli journalist and Channel 13 News anchor Oshrat Kotler expressed her disapproval over the findings not being widely reported in Israel.

“How sad that I had to read about this important Israeli research on an American news site,” Kotler wrote on Facebook. The journalist added that she had contacted Maccabi and confirmed the veracity of the headline she had read, which asserted, based on the Maccabi study, that “vaccinated individuals are 13 times more likely to be infected by the Delta variant than those with natural antibodies.”

Indeed, the majority of the nearly 700 Israelis currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 are fully vaccinated against that virus, and vaccinated individuals make up a large percentage, if not a majority of those testing positive every day....

From the same article:

UPDATE: Kotler’s post has sparked a media firestorm in Israel, prompting the Ministry of Health to respond with the following statement:

There is a fundamentally incorrect analysis of the Maccabi study spreading on the internet. It is important for us to clarify to the public – the risk of an unvaccinated person getting Corona is 20 times greater than that of a vaccinated person!

Some are making the mistake of thinking the vaccine is dangerous based on a distorted interpretation of the data presented that makes an illogical comparison between death rates among those who recovered and those who were vaccinated. This is not the proper comparison. The purpose of the vaccine is to prevent serious illness, and it is very effective at doing this.

Corona is a serious disease that can kill, and even recovering patients have long-term symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, decreased concentration, cognitive disorders and more. It is best to read the study in depth and not rely on misleading headlines and interpretations. The unequivocal recommendation of all health bodies in Israel and around the world is to get vaccinated.

The health minister didn't really respond to the concerns in the story. They didn't say unvaccinated with no immunity from infection were less likely to be infected than vaccinated. They also didn't say that nobody would benefit, at least for a few months, from a Covid shot. They just are questioning the mass vaccination policy in light of short duration of protection. To me, that puts the mRNA shots in the classification of a prophylactic treatment, rather than what we think of as a vaccine.

There is something strange going on when in the US, we are told that almost 100% of Covid hospitalizations and deaths are in the unvaccinated, and in Israel they are saying the opposite is true. Israel has not turned its data in to the US FDA to help them set booster policy. Biden began talking about a booster after only 5 months.

Hopefully we'll get some real data.

FDA to get Israeli 3rd vax data

Israel remains far ahead of the rest of the world in its proactive vaccination drive against the coronavirus.

By Erin Viner

At least 2.6 million people out of a population of 9.3 million have already received 3 doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech SE vaccine in Israel.

While seniors have been administered the third shot since July, Israel also began offering the jab last week to individuals as young as 12.

Israeli health officials believe the effectiveness of the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine waned 5 months after administration, making a booster necessary. A third dose restores the level of protection of the second shot, they say; adding that the campaign has succeeded in diminishing severe illness caused by the Delta variant...

So did a modern day Soapy Smith sell junk vaccines to Israel while with a slight of hand passing the good stuff off to his gang in the US? I don't think so. The vaccines are the same and Israel is being honest about the situation. Soapy is being misleading about what is going on in the US, though.

Israel’s Covid Surge Shows the World What’s Coming Next
2021-09-07 09:24:05.156 GMT

By Daniel Avis
(Bloomberg) -- Israel, once a front-runner in the global
race to move on from Covid-19, is now one of the world’s biggest
pandemic hot spots.
The country that was once predicted to be the first to
vaccinate its entire population had the highest per-capita
caseload of anywhere in the week through Sept. 4, according to
figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University. Its world-beating
inoculation rate, meanwhile, has tumbled down the league table.
The nation of 9 million became the test case for reopening
society and the economy in April when much of Europe and the
U.S. were still in some form of lockdown. Yet Israel now shows
how the calculus is changing in places where progress was
fastest. It’s no longer just about whether people get
coronavirus, but also how badly they get it and ensuring that
vaccines are still working as the highly infectious Delta
variant threatens to undermine immunity.

More recently, it has led the way when it comes to
vaccinating children and rolling out a booster shot of the
Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine after research suggested reduced
efficacy over time. Around 100,000 Israelis are getting
inoculated every day, the vast majority of them with a third
shot.
“If you are able to maintain life without lockdown, and to
avoid very high numbers of hospitalizations and death, then this
is what life with Covid looks like,” said Eyal Leshem, a
professor specializing in infectious diseases at the Sheba
Medical Center in Tel Ha-Shomer.
QuicktakeHow Delta Is Bolstering the Case for Covid
Boosters
Since April, Israel has fallen from first to 33rd in
Bloomberg’s vaccine tracker of populations considered fully
vaccinated. The program plateaued amid hesitancy from some in
the Orthodox Jewish and Arab communities. About 61% of Israelis
have been given two doses, lower than in European laggards
earlier in the year such as France and Spain.
Following the spread of the Delta variant over the summer,
Israel has seen cases climb, reaching an all-time high of 11,316
daily cases on Sept. 2. The number of people falling seriously
sick and being hospitalized, though, has risen less than it did
during the last coronavirus wave, peaking at 751 in late August,
compared with 1,183 in mid-January. The trend is now downward.
Infections jumped because of the prevalence of cases among
the unvaccinated, especially children. There were also so-called
breakthrough infections in those who have been vaccinated, and
the drop in efficacy of vaccines.
That said, unvaccinated people account for more than 10
times as many serious cases as those who have received two
doses, showing that even with immunity waning, shots are
providing protection.
For public health officials and politicians, the latest
chapter of the pandemic is to concentrate on ensuring older
people more at risk continue to be protected while cases are
rising among children.
The importance of that drive is
heightened by the return of millions of children to schools last
week, and the Jewish New Year this week.
Epidemiologists say cases among the over 30s are already
declining thanks to the boosters and restrictions on bars and
restaurants to the fully vaccinated. The highest rate of new
cases in recent weeks is among children under the age of 12,
according to Ran Balicer, chair of the expert advisory panel to
the government. There’s also a record level of testing.
“Waning immunity is a real challenge that every country
needs to prepare a contingency plan to tackle,” said Balicer,
who is also chief innovation officer for Israeli health
maintenance organization Clalit.
The data coming from Israel in
the coming weeks will allow the world to assess the efficacy of
the booster shot program, he said.
As of Sept. 6, at least 2.6 million people in Israel—around
28% of the population—have now had the booster shot of the
Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, according to the Israeli Health
Ministry. That rises to at least 64% for people in age brackets
over 60. Significantly, the booster shot is also available for
anyone over 12 who was vaccinated at least five months ago.
The wildcard is the return of schools. That could change
the transmission dynamics and expose all age groups to infection
because of kids coming home with Covid-19, Balicer said.
The World Health Organization’s heat map puts Israel in the
top five in the wider European region. The rolling data show
areas with the highest seven-day infection rates are in
Scotland, where 68% of the population are fully vaccinated.
Cases surged after restrictions were lifted and then schools
returned from their summer break in mid-August.
“If we look back a year ago, we virtually had no protection
other than a complete lockdown,” said Leshem. “Now, we have an
open education system, fully open commerce, and despite over
50,000 cases a week, we are not seeing increases in the number
of severe cases and hospitalization.”

--With assistance from Drew Armstrong and Jinshan Hong.

The case for the benefits of the 'new normal' of mRNA shots every 5 months rests on the supposition that lockdowns were necessary in the first place. Correlations between the timing of boosters and hospitalizations slowing down is just that - correlations with no evidence of causation. US CDC shows trends like that right now without mass boosters, same with my state. So tomorrow Biden imposes new mandates, and they ride the down slope of the wave and take credit for a correlation.
