State Health Department is investigating to determine cause

The Minnesota Department of Health is investigating the cause of a mysterious illness that kept about 60 Farmington High School students from school Monday, Oct. 10.

Parents who excused their children from school reported they were still suffering symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea that had started last Friday, the start of Farmington High School?s homecoming weekend....

State: Virus was spread person-to-person, not through food preparation

About 60 Farmington High School students who called in sick to school with vomiting and diarrhea earlier this week had contracted the norovirus, the Minnesota Health Department has concluded.

After an investigation that included interviewing students who were ill, it was determined the virus was spread person-to-person, not through food preparation activities.

According to the district, symptoms had been reported as early as Oct. 2, prior to homecoming events.

Officials stated the outbreak may have spread quickly because of the number of social events associated with homecoming week.
