Fargo Teen in Critical Condition from H1N1 Complications

2009-12-14 09:59:42

FARGO, ND - A mother says her teenage son is fighting for his life from complications of the H1N1 virus.

KFGO's Don Haney reports Keith Worthington, 15, is in critical condition at Meritcare Children's Hospital intensive care unit.

The Ben Franklin 8th grader had no underlying medical conditions that would put him at risk for the illness.

His mother, Chritina Quintana, took him in October 19th with flu like symptons.

His condition has been unstable since. Tests confirmed H1N1 and pneumonia.

Doctors had to perform CPR and use medication after Keith's heart stopped beating November 24th.

He remains on a ventilator and doctors say his prognosis is unknown. His mother is talking publicly about it in hopes it will prompt people to get vaccinated against the H1N1 virus.
