Statement includes message from McGuire: "I love you all and I will see you soon."

BOSTON —
Family members of a 91-year-old Boston luminary who was attacked and stabbed in Boston's Franklin Park issued a statement Friday, thanking the public for its support and the health care professionals assisting in her recovery.

Jean McGuire, who was the first Black woman on the Boston School Committee and a METCO founder, was stabbed multiple times near 25 Playstead Road on Tuesday night.

Her friend, Jeriline Brady-McGinnis, said McGuire was attacked from behind.

"She believes he was trying to rape her," Brady-McGinnis said. "She said when he knocked her down, he was groping her and touching on her."

Friday's statement from the family included a quote from McGuire:

"We as a community can never forget that we need to stand together and continue working to empower our children through learning,'" she said. "'We are at our best as a people; when it’s about 'we' not 'me'. I love you all and I will see you soon.'"...
