The smallest rash sends a shiver down any parent?s spine.
Just the fear of Meningococcal, an acute bacterial infection can cause death within hours if not recognised and treated in time, fills up countless GP surgeries daily with parents wanting to be safe rather than sorry, despite their children having nothing more serious than a nappy or heat rash.
And why wouldn?t they? An alarming 10% of people infected will die, while 20% will be left with permanent disabilities.
A mini-outbreak in South Australia has seen 4 people diagnosed with Meningoccal this week, bring the yearly total to 25 nationwide.
The latest is a 19-year-old male, who SA Health has confirmed is in a critical condition in hospital with meningococcal B.
Health authorities identified 13 people who had close contact with the man, and they have all been advised to receive antibiotics...
