Another New Hampshire patient has been diagnosed with the same strain of hepatitis C carried by a medical technologist accused of stealing drugs and contaminating syringes that were used on patients.

A total of 32 former Exeter Hospital patients have been diagnosed since the investigation began in May, though the case announced Wednesday was a bit different...

Unprecedented Hep C Testing Nearly Complete

Officials have tested more than 2,000 more the disease after an outbreak at Exeter Hospital.

An unprecedented effort to test thousands of patients for hepatitis C after an outbreak at Exeter Hospital is winding down.

State health officials said they wanted to test about 3,300 patients who may have been exposed to the outbreak, which prosecutors said was started by hospital employee Dave Kwiatkowski. He allegedly spread his hepatitis C to at least 32 Exeter Hospital patients by injecting himself with their medication to get high.

As of Thursday, 2,426 patients had been tested at clinics organized by the state, Exeter Hospital, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, and local doctors. Those who have not been tested have opted not to do...

New hepatitis C case associated with Exeter Hospital outbreak

CONCORD ? Another person has contracted hepatitis C, the result of having sexual contact with one of 32 other previously diagnosed individuals infected last year by a former Exeter Hospital employee.

The state Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health Services, said in a news release Thursday that the newly diagnosed case associated with last year's hepatitis C outbreak was confirmed through laboratory testing at the Public Health Laboratory and matched the hepatitis C strain found in 32 patients infected at Exeter Hospital...

State HHS chief: Exeter Hospital taking hepatitis C report seriously

EXETER ? The commissioner of the state Department of Health and Human Services on Monday night said he believes Exeter Hospital officials are taking the recommendations made in a state report about last year's hepatitis C outbreak to heart, despite a statement from hospital officials differing with some of the report's conclusions.

Hospital Chief Executive Officer Kevin Callahan sent a letter to the state's public health director, saying hospital officials "investigated whether David Kwiatkowski (a traveling medical technician) was fit for duty when any concern was raised."

But the state's report into the outbreak says there was no documentation of any investigation being conducted after seven staff members reported behavior by Kwiatkowski that they believed showed he was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol while at work...

Hepatitis C defendant: 'I'm guilty'

CONCORD ? David Kwiatkowski, the former hospital technician who was labeled a "serial infector" for causing last year's hepatitis C outbreak at Exeter Hospital, pleaded guilty to multiple federal charges Wednesday morning.

Kwiatkowski, 34, appeared at U.S. District Court in Concord in a gray jumpsuit and stood while Judge Joseph Laplante read all 16 charges against him, to which he responded guilty to each. When asked by Laplante why he made the plea deal, Kwiatkowski said, "Because I'm guilty."

Laplante accepted all the pleas. Kwiatkowski's plea could be withdrawn, however, if the judge imposes a sentence that's beyond the 30 to 40 years outlined in the agreement. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Dec. 3...
