Evaluation of a new rapid test for influenza A and B viruses detection and pandemic (H1N1)2009 subtyping in respiratory samples.

Abstract
A new commercially available rapid influenza diagnostic test was evaluated for influenza A and B viruses detection in association with pandemic A(H1N1)2009 influenza virus subtyping in 106 nasopharyngeal samples. Comparatively to rRT-PCR assay, sensitivity and specificity for the pandemic A(H1N1)2009 influenza virus diagnosis were respectively 39.3% and 100%. This low sensitivity assessed from clinical samples indicates that this new RIDT has moderate clinical value for a first-line screening strategy of nasopharyngeal samples obtained from A(H1N1)2009 influenza virus suspect cases in daily virological diagnosis.
