EU Makes No Progress on Common Vaccine Stockpile for Swine Flu

By Peter Chapman
April 30 (Bloomberg) -- European Union health ministers
made no progress on a common vaccine stockpile against swine
flu, Luxembourg Health Minister Mars Di Bartolomeo told
reporters. ?Discussions, like in previous years on this issue,
didn?t go anywhere because countries have created their own
stockpiles of vaccines,? he said. Ministers from the 27-nation
EU were meeting in Luxembourg today to consider plans to deal
with the swine flu problem.

Re: EU Makes No Progress on Common Vaccine Stockpile for Swine Flu

I am more than a little puzzled by this report, as no country presently has any vaccine for this flu variant, so no country could donate anythig to a common stockpile.

Perhaps they are looking for forward commitments? I would expect manufacturers to ration out vaccines to each country proportionally in any event, as supplies will be so highly limited?
