Polio virus from Sudan affects Ethiopian children
APA-Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) The polio virus from neighboring Sudan affects Ethiopian children, forcing the country to carry out an anti-polio vaccination campaign.
Polio outbreak has been diagnosed during the past few weeks in the Benishangul Gumuz regional state of Ethiopia, which is bordering Sudan.
The Ethiopian Ministry of Health said on Thursday that polio cases have been diagnosed in a number of children in the region.
Accordingly, the ministry, in collaboration with the regional state will carry out a house to house polio vaccination campaign as from Friday.
The campaign is to take place for four days in which around 109,000 children under the age of five are to be vaccinated during the campaign.
Over 135,000 children were inoculated against polio last year through two campaigns.
Ethiopia has been facing similar problems originating from neighboring Sudan during the past few years, which is affecting Ethiopia?s move towards achieving the status of a polio-free country.
