The Ministry of health of Ethiopia announced that it has found three more individuals infected by the global pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19).

The new three individuals reported infected by the global pandemic includes 85 years old Ethiopian who recently came from abroad, according to the social media post of the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia. Though he managed to isolate himself since his arrival, the man was reported to be in a critical condition.

The second new victim of the virus is a 44 years old Japanese who had contact with the first Japanese confirmed to acquire the virus in Ethiopia. The third one is a 39 years old Austrian national.

Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health said on Tuesday that one more COVID 19 patient is confirmed. That makes the total number of infected people in Ethiopia 12 at this writing.

The patient is identified as a 34 years old Ethiopian man who arrived in the country from Dubai on March 19, 2020. He did not visit until March 22 when he experienced COVID 19 symptoms.

Ethiopia to release 4,110 prisoners early to stem COVID-19 spread

Federal Attorney General in Ethiopia has sanctioned the early release of over 4,000 inmates from federal prisons as part of government measures to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The decision to release the prisoners was made during a meeting between COVID-19 National Ministerial Committee and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed last Friday.

It says, apart from mandatory COVID-19 test for new prisoners, convicts with minor offenses and release dates that are near will be released to avoid overcrowding.

On Wednesday, Attorney General Adanech Abebe told reporters about 4, 110 inmates will be discharged from various correctional facilities.

Foreigners are among those who will be released, said Adanech. "They will immediately be deported to their country," she added. Officials have already halted personal and legal visits to prisoners in a bid to prevent the spread of COVID-19 into prisons...

The total number of people infected by coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has gone up to 35 after six more patients are confirmed positive in the last 24 hours.

The Public Health Institute of Ethiopia said that it has found six new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours after conducting test for 74 people. So far Ethiopia has conducted less than 1,150 COVID-19 tests using its single testing facility at the Public health Institute of Ethiopia. A few days ago, the Ministry of Health stated that two more institutions have got green light to commence testing COVID-19 in Ethiopia. Meanwhile still Ethiopia is conducting less than 100 tests per day.

It is stated that all the six new patients are Ethiopian nationals. Out of the six new COVID-19 positive people, one is from Dire Dawa City while the remaining are from the capital Addis Ababa. Out of the six, two have travel history to Dubai. But they returned to Addis Ababa before the country begins two weeks quarantine a mandatory for all people coming from abroad. Health Minister Dr. Lia Tadesse said on Twitter that a 60-year-old woman who contracted the disease died of the virus.

“The deceased was in an intensive care unit for the last five days,” the minister said, adding that the deceased was among the 42 coronavirus cases Ethiopia has so far confirmed.

Earlier, Mayor of the Addis Ababa City Administration Takele Uma told journalists that his administration would refrain from totally shut businesses down in view of the crippling effect total closure would have on the economy.

Ethiopia's COVID-19 cases rise to 52 as 8 more confirmed

ADDIS ABABA, April 7 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia's confirmed COVID-19 cases reached 52 after eight more people were confirmed to have been infected with the COVID-19 virus, the Ethiopian Ministry of Health disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday.

"We conducted medical tests on 264 people in the last 24 hours, in which eight of them were tested positive for COVID-19, eventually bringing the total number of cases to 52," said the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.

According to figures from the ministry, seven of the latest eight individuals were Ethiopian national -- five male and two female, while the remaining one was said to be a 30-years-old female Eritrean national.

Among the eight newly confirmed COVID-19 cases also include a nine-month-old Ethiopian, who is said to be the youngest confirmed COVID-19 case in the East African country.
