195 safe water facilities go operational

Ambo july 15/2013 Some 195 of the 207 safe water facilities being constructed in West Shoa Zone of Oromia State with 25.7 million Birr have gone operational, the zonal water, mines and energy office said. Deputy Head of the Office, Kebede Tafa told ENA on Sunday that the facilities include, among others, digging of 115 water wells, development of 98 springs. Kebede said construction of the remaining facilities will be completed in the current Ethiopian budget year. The facilities which are constructed in 18 rural woredas will benefit more than 343,900 residents, he said. More than 293,000 residents contributed labour and material support for construction of the facilities. Over 240 similar projects constructed with over 49 million Birr during the previous Ethiopian year have benefited more than 250,000 residents in the zone, the head said.
