No Easy Answers as Texas Power Grid, Natural Gas Market Rocked by Unprecedented Cold Snap

Rotating power outages continued to impact Texas end-users on Tuesday as the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) scrambled to restore service amid a blast of arctic cold that sent the electric grid and natural gas markets into chaos.

Despite an initial rush by fossil fuel-friendly commentators and other media sources to blame frozen wind turbines for deadly power outages in Texas, the organization that manages a vast majority of the state’s power grid said that wind woes have been the least significant factor in the blackouts.

Dan Woodfin, a senior director for the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, told Bloomberg News that frozen instruments at natural gas, coal and nuclear facilities combined with limited supplies of natural gas led to the energy failures...
 
I do not know about freezing weather but I know that more injuries and deaths happen AFTER the hurricane than during the hurricane. Once people can go outside they make temporary repairs - mostly without the correct knowledge, equipment, or help. They injure themselves and some have heart attacks.

It is only stuff. Most damage will be covered by insurance.

Be super careful.
