          • Some vaccinated thoroughbred horses which were suffering from pyrexia, mild coughing and mucoid nasal discharge were sent to the Hospital of the Jockey Club training and race center of Ankara.
          • They were from different stables in the area, but immediately isolated in the quarantine stable.
          • All horse movements into and out of the training center were prohibited.

    • Veterinarians in the equine hospital think that the vaccine may be ineffective because horses are kept going with very heavy exercises after vaccination.
    • Note by the OIE Animal Health Information Department:
      • Turkey has not provided any information to the OIE on equine influenza since at least 1996.
      • Since this is the first time that equine influenza is identified in the history of the country, the reason for notification as first occurrence applies to the country but the event is in fact circumscribed to a zone.
