HEALTH officials are investigating an outbreak of sickness and diarrhoea in a Yorkshire Dales village.

Tests are being carried out after more than 30 people became ill in the village of Askrigg, near Hawes.

According to Richmondshire District Council which is investigating the outbreak, those residents who have fallen ill attended an Askrigg Friendly Society function at the village's King's Arms Hotel.

A council spokesman said: ?We are aware of over 30 people who are currently ill with symptoms of either food poisoning or the rotavirus - viral winter vomiting - infection.

?They all attended a private function on Thursday, June 6 and became ill on Saturday, June 8.
