A 36-year-old NHS nurse, who was believed to have no underlying health issues, has died after contracting coronavirus.

Areema Nasreen died shortly after midnight in intensive care at Walsall Manor Hospital in the West Midlands, where she had worked for 16 years.

The mother-of-three developed symptoms of coronavirus on March 13, including body aches, a high temperature and then a cough.

She had tested positive for COVID-19 a week later and a doctor at the hospital previously told Sky News her condition "deteriorated very quickly".

There are fears the mass gathering of more than 250,000 people during the Cheltenham Festival last month helped spread the disease widely across the country as famous faces and members of the public who attended have tested positive.

The comedian Lee Mack spent two days at the pinnacle of the jump racing season before testing positive for Covid-19, with a friend saying he believed he caught it off his driver when travelling to the event.

Andrew Parker Bowles, the former husband of the Duchess of Cornwall, has also caught the coronavirus and said he thinks he “probably got it on the Wednesday or Friday I attended Cheltenham”.

A total of 18,100 patients have died in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK as of 5pm on Tuesday, April 21 the Department of Health said.

The total number is up by 763 from 17,337 the day before.

NHS England has announced 665 new deaths of people who tested positive for Covid-19.

While, Public Health Wales said a further 15 people have died after testing positive for coronavirus in Wales, bringing the total number of deaths there to 624.
