Four further patients in England have tested positive for novel coronavirus, bringing the total number of cases in the UK to eight.

The new cases are all known contacts of a previously confirmed UK case, and the virus was passed on in France.

Experts at Public Health England continue to work hard tracing patient contacts from the UK cases. They successfully identified these individuals and ensured the appropriate support was provided.

The patients have been transferred to specialist NHS centres at Guy’s and St Thomas’ and The Royal Free hospitals, and we are now using robust infection control measures to prevent further spread of the virus. The NHS is extremely well prepared to manage these cases and treat them, and we are working quickly to identify any further contacts these patients have had. Coronavirus: Brighton GP practice closes after staff member tests positive

A GP practice in Brighton has been temporarily closed after a staff member tested positive for the coronavirus.

Patients at the city's County Oak medical centre have been advised to contact the NHS 111 phone service if they have concerns...
 
The BBC reporter stated that one of the confirmed cases was a doctor at the practice - but that they had not been seeing patients today!

"In recent days we have seen some concerning instances of onward transmission from people with no travel history to China, like the cases reported in France yesterday and the UK today.

The detection of this small number of cases could be the spark that becomes a bigger fire. But for now, it’s only a spark. Our objective remains containment. We call on all countries to use the window of opportunity we have to prevent a bigger fire."
 
A University of Sussex student has been quarantined after falling ill with suspected coronavirus. The undergraduate, who lives at Lewes Court halls, on the University’s Falmer campus, in Brighton, had just returned to the UK from overseas. They have now been taken to a hospital in the area for tests. Earlier today people in Hazmat suits and an ambulance were spotted outside the halls, with a video being shared on WhatsApp.

THERE have been reports this afternoon of prisoners at HMP Bullingdon being tested for coronavirus.

Claims have included that two prisoners are being tested for it, cells have been shut down and that medics in hazmat suits have been seen.

As of 4pm, these claims are unconfirmed.

Public Health England said they could not comment on the claims.

A source told the Oxford Mail this morning that prisoners were told about the tests today, with one of the prisoners suspected to have the virus having recently been in Thailand

The University of Sussex has written to all staff and students to let them know that a student on campus has been admitted to hospital, to be tested for Coronavirus.

The patient — rumoured to have visited Thailand — had booked into the extended hours surgery at Boundary House, Bracknell, Berks, after it was believed they had been exposed to the killer virus, staff confirmed. ...snip

A prisoner who recently tested positive for coronavirus at a British prison had been transferred from a jail in Thailand, it has been reported.

A new UK coronavirus case, believed to be a woman who flew into London from China, has been confirmed to the BBC.

It is understood she will be treated in St Thomas' Hospital, in central London, which has specialist infectious diseases facilities.

It comes after a senior health official said more cases of coronavirus were "highly likely".

Prof Paul Cosford, from Public Health England, told the BBC his teams were doing their best to contain the spread.

Meanwhile, all 83 people being held in quarantine at Arrowe Park Hospital in the Wirral have been told their final set of test results for the coronavirus have come back as negative, confirming they are all free of the virus.

It is expected they will be free to leave the accommodation on Thursday morning after two weeks in quarantine.

There are multiple sources claiming both men tested negative but not one retraction of the original reporting of positive results.

NHS INSTALL CORONAVIRUS ASSESSMENT CABINS IN CAR PARKS

The NHS have sprung up makeshift “assessment pods” – cabins in car parks to separate any potential sufferers from the needy and unwell in A&E.

Anyone who thinks they have the virus can enter the pods and phone up a specialist team.

They will then be tested and if thought to be at risk, taken to a specialist quarantine ward.

Ninth UK case of Covid-19 confirmed as woman in London tests positive for virus

A woman in London has become the ninth person to test positive for the coronavirus in the UK.

The case, confirmed on Wednesday evening, is the first recorded instance of the virus in the capital. The woman developed symptoms in Heathrow airport after visiting China.
The patient, who is now being treated at a specialist NHS centre at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust in London, caught the virus while in China, England's Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, said.
