Elective surgery in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, has been cancelled for the month of January as pressure and concerns about the facility?s ability to deliver its increased workload continues to grow. Irish Medical Times understands that HIQA is now actively monitoring the situation.
A spokesperson for the HSE Dublin North East, however, said elective surgery had been curtailed as part of the hospital?s winter planning initiative.
This, the spokesperson added, was because January was traditionally ?extremely busy? and this curtailment would ensure that patients coming through the emergency department could be treated as quickly as possible. ?Like all other hospitals and most health and social care facilities, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital is subject to monitoring by HIQA,? the spokesperson commented....
