Vice Minister Eduardo Espinoza said samples already sent to a foreign laboratory


The Deputy Health Minister Eduardo Espinoza, confirmed this morning that nine suspects have been reported cases of zika in El Salvador, this despite the holder of that portfolio has repeatedly denied the presence of the virus in the country.

Espinoza said the samples were sent to laboratories in the United States for confirmation that this is the new disease.

The official also explained that " or we have so far confirmed the presence of the disease in any of the neighboring countries ", reducing the actual risk.

Some of the symptoms are similar to zika dengue and chikungunya.

On other issues, Espinoza confirmed an outbreak of malaria in Sonsone
te Metal?o municipality, where five cases were reported, and two persons of Guatemalan origin who arrived with the disease but were treated.

In the municipality an epidemiological fence and those close to patients already in treatment is Montro ended.

El Salvador confirms presence of Zika virus

The Salvadoran Ministry of Health confirmed on Wednesday the presence in the country of the zika, which produces muscle aches, conjunctivitis and skin rash virus, among other symptoms.

The Minister of Health Violeta Menjivar, released a report of "three positive samples" of zica virus, a total of 10 that were sent to a research center in Fort Collins, Colorado, United States.

Without identifying the patients, she explained that Menjivar is a 33 year old woman and a 28 of Usulutan, southeast, and a 33-year-old from Tonacatepeque, 25 km north of San Salvador.

Since last October, the national medical health system and the private sector reported suspected cases of zika produced by bites of Aedes aegypti, the same that transmits dengue and Chikungunya.

Zika virus infection ? El Salvador Disease Outbreak News

On 24 November, the National IHR Focal Point of El Salvador notified PAHO/WHO of 3 laboratory-confirmed autochthonous cases of Zika virus infection. The preliminary confirmation was provided by the national reference laboratory and has since been confirmed by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Fort Collins. Salvadoran health authorities are implementing the corresponding prevention and control activities.
[h=3]WHO advice[/h] Given the increased transmission of Zika virus in the Region of the Americas, PAHO/WHO recommends that its Member States establish and maintain the capacity to detect and confirm cases of Zika virus infection, prepare their health services for a potential additional burden at all levels of health care, and implement an effective public communications strategy to reduce the mosquitoes that transmit this disease, particularly in areas where this vector is present. MINSAL recorded 240 cases of Zika

The authorities have begun to report cases of the virus after confirmation of the disease in the country.

Three thousand 836 confirmed cases of zika in El Salvador

San Salvador, Jan 11 (PL) The Minister of Health of El Salvador, Violeta Menjivar, today confirmed the existence of three thousand 836 cases of Zika, 63 of them are pregnant women receiving follow-up because fetuses have microcephaly.

The Minister stressed that the disease is also associated with Guillain-Barre syndrome, which occurs when the body's defense system (immune system) attacks the nervous system.
