Farouk El-Baz: pollution of water and food shortages hamper development in Egypt

قال العالم فاروق الباز، رئيس قسم أبحاث الفضاء في جامعة بوسطن الأمريكية، إن مصر تعاني عدة مشاكل معوقة للتنمية في مقدمتها الحاجة إلي الغذاء، خاصة أنها تستورد ٤٠% من القمح وتلوث المياه.
World said Farouk El-Baz, head of space research at the University of Boston, said that Egypt suffered several problems hindered development in the forefront the need for food, especially as it imports 40% of the wheat and water pollution.
ودعا الباز علي هامش مؤتمر رابطة المراكز العلمية لشمال أفريقيا والشرق الأوسط في اجتماعها، أمس بمكتبة الإسكندرية، إلي ضرورة ترجمة لغة العلم للمجتمع واستغلال الطاقة الشمسية لتوليد الطاقة وبيعها لأوروبا بالإضافة إلي استغلال طاقة الرياح في تشغيل المصانع.
Baz called on the sidelines of the Association of scientific centers in North Africa and the Middle East at their meeting yesterday Bibliotheca Alexandrina, to the need to translate the language of science to society and the exploitation of solar energy to generate power and sell it to Europe in addition to the use of wind power in the operation of factories.
وأكد الباز أهمية البحوث الزراعية وزيادة إنتاج الحبوب والأرز وزيادة مساحة الأراضي المزروعة لافتًا إلي ضرورة الخروج من الدلتا وإعطاء المزيد من الجهد والوقت لاستثمار الممر الموازي لدلتا نهر النيل.
Baz stressed the importance of agricultural research and increased production of grain, rice and increase the area of cultivated land pointing to the need to get out of the delta and to give more time and effort to invest in the corridor parallel to the Nile River Delta.
وحث الباز علي تشجيع الابتكار لدي الشباب في العالم العربي، مؤكدًا أن الباحث إذا ما حاول الابتكار والإبداع لا يجد أمامه سوي عبارة واحدة هي ?انت لسه طالع من البيضة?، لافتًا إلي أهمية تمرد العقول وإطلاق العنان للخيال وتشجيع الباحثين بالجوائز المادية والعلمية.
Baz urged to promote innovation among young people in the Arab world, stressing that if the researcher tried to innovation and creativity do not find the words to him only one ?You still guy egg?, pointing to the importance of rebellion minds and unleash the imagination and encourage researchers and scientific material prizes.
وأشار الباز إلي أهمية صحة الإنسان لأنه لا إنتاج دون صحة جيدة متأسفًا لحجم التلوث الذي آلت إليه القاهرة، والاهتمام بأبحاث التلوث البيئي مشيرًا إلي أن البحث العلمي في العالم العربي لم يضف إلي المعرفة العالمية.
Baz noted the importance of human health because it does not produce good health without Mtosva the size of the pollution outcome of the Cairo research and attention to environmental pollution pointed out that scientific research in the Arab world does not add to global knowledge.
