CAIRO ? 12 May 2021: Head of Genome Research Unit at Children Cancer Hospital Ahmed al-Sayed stated in a phone-in Tuesday that there is collaboration with researchers at Cairo University Medical School to determine the origin of the COVID-19 virus of the third wave in Egypt.
The doctor pointed out that the viruses of the first and second waves were of European origin, and that the results of the analysis of the current samples will be out by the end of May. He added that until present Egypt is clear of the Indian, South African, Brazilian, and British variations.

Egypt reported 1,180 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday bringing the total infection tally to 239,740 since the outbreak began in February.
The health ministry also reported 61 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths from the virus to 14,033.
The statement said that 801 patients have been discharged after recovering from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 178,241.

CAIRO, May 12 (MENA) - The Health Ministry said late Tuesday that 1,180 new coronavirus cases were detected, upping the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak in the country began to 239,740.
In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Khaled Megahed said 61 patients have died from the virus over the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 14,033.
As many as 801 patients were discharged from isolation hospitals after receiving necessary medical care, taking the number of recovered cases to 178,241 so far, the spokesman said.
Similarly, Egypt?s leading pharmaceutical company Minapharm said it would produce over 40 million doses of the Russian-made Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine per year, as per an agreement with the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).
