Obviously they are having a hard time differentiating between A/H1N1 and A/H5N1.

It looks like Fayoum has a mix.

It is probably why the Ministry of Health denied the press release referred to in the above post.

It looks to me that they have a highly suspected H5N1 death of an infant (age - 44 days). This is important because a child of this age is not playing with sick poultry or eating infected poultry.

I colored coded the posts, thanks IOH, to help differentiate the cases. If anyone has another opinion, please post. A couple of the cases I was not sure which flu they are suspected of having so I left those as a black color.

That seems to make sense. The articles do appear to refer to the 44-day old infant as bird flu, but they all it "emerging bird flu", which appears in another articles with the word "pigs" in parentheses next to it. I'm not sure the infant isn't suspected as H1N1.

It is possible. In any event they have hundreds of children who are sick with pneumonia systems, a few have tested positive for A/H1N1, at the very least.....

I wish they would just tell us - frankly..........

Laboratory tests confirmed the central Ministry of Health wounded two children in Fayoum disease ?emerging influenza?.

The samples have been taken from the children, Kamal Abdel-Halim Abdel-Halim (3 years) resident in a village center Etsa Fayoum, and the child Noor Ahmed horny aged one month and the resident district in the mystic city of Fayoum.

The child was Nour was detained Hospital Fayoum General last week with dozens of children who have been detained on suspicion of having a new type of influenza, and got the hospital on 3 samples of each child, and sent to central laboratories, and children have suffered in detention all of colds and shortness of breath, and transferred the hospital of children with to the isolation ward the bird flu developments.

The boy, Abdel-Halim, was transferred to hospital after a high temperature and repeated vomiting, and doctors suspected in Fayoum Fever Hospital in emerging influenza illness and was detained and took a sample and send Ilyalamaaml central Ministry of Health for analysis.

In a different context, Dr. Hatem held the Minister of Health meeting on Tuesday, with representatives of the United Nations to combat avian influenza, swine, and attended the meeting, Dr. David Nabarua Coordinator General of the United Nations to combat influenza. He said the mountain after the meeting: ?not invited to concern, injuries and deaths are expected and normal?, pointing out that the number of deaths stood at 348 swine flu case since last October And it has been modified influenza vaccines for the prevention of all types of influenza, whether seasonal or pigs. He explained that the bird is still ?represent the greatest danger in the incidence of bird flu?.

He pointed out that at the same time last year, has been monitoring about 10 thousand and 955 cases of the virus have died, including 124 cases ?This confirms that the injuries this year are still in the normal and the normal rate, which confirms that the disease is still under control, it does not provoke anxiety? According to the minister.

The mountain that Egypt is one of the few countries that continue to monitor the bird flu and the number of injuries and deaths from the virus ?normal in this period where the spread of seasonal influenza, which has become of the swine flu after the World Health Organization said mutations to the normal seasonal flu?

He noted that during the meeting exchanged views on the experiences of Egypt from the experience of bird flu and that experience last year ?confirmed that there is no justice in the distribution of vaccines among the States, where he received rich countries to vaccines before the middle-income countries or poor and this in itself was a factor to be extremely worrisome, and the ability of States to produce vaccines were weak at the beginning of the crisis and improved with the end ?.

The mountain was not satisfied of the device evaluated by the World Health Organization severity of the disease and the way he said it was ?shown on a geographical distribution only causing panic and consternation in the world was indispensable?

I believe in this case the references to "new type of influenza" are to A/H1N1 and that they are isolating the patients in the wards reserved for bird flu patients.

this area it could be very common for children to have daily contact with poultry/ducks fayoum is a rural area and many people in the area may still raise birds.

Re: Egypt - Suspected A/H1N1 & A/H5N1 Cases in Fayyum (Fayoum), an update (Dec. 15 2010)

Egypt is using this basic rule to help doctors sort out what type of infection it is,I just read this a couple of times this week.

hi temp over 38c w/short breath along with other symptoms, w/o diarrheal or vomiting = bird-flu suspect, isolate treat tamiflu and extended testing

hi temp w/o shortness of breath along with other symptoms, w/o diarrheal or vomiting = normal flu

fever w/o shortness of breath along with other normal flu/cold symptoms, with diarrheal or vomiting = cold virus

Egypts position on the new influenza emerging is 2009 h1n1, "is becoming a seasonal virus based on the who comments".

bird flu as it was used here was because they suspected h5n1 infection in at least some of the cases.
