Egypt records second death from swine flu

(AFP)

CAIRO ? An Egyptian woman has died of swine flu in the second death related to the A(H1N1) virus since July, state television reported on Sunday.

"The health ministry has announced the second death due to swine flu in a 25-year-old woman from Dahaqliya" province in the Nile Delta, the report said.

The first victim, also a 25-year-old woman, died in July after returning to Egypt from Muslim pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

Since then Egypt has banned people under 25 or older than 65 from going on pilgrimage to Saudi holy places as part of restrictions decided on by Arab health ministers aimed at restricting the spread of the virus.

So far Egypt has recorded around 800 cases of swine flu.

The World Health Organisation said on Friday that at least 2,837 people had died from the disease since the new virus first appeared in April.

Egypt reports second swine flu death

CAIRO, September 6 (RIA Novosti)

A second person has died from a swine flu in Egypt, a spokesman for the Egyptian Health Ministry said on Sunday.

The victim was a 25-year-old woman from the Daqahliyah province in northern Egypt, the spokesman said.

"The woman contracted the virus back on August 20 but refused to undergo medical treatment with her doctor," the spokesman said, adding that the woman was later hospitalized but the doctors already could not save her life.

The first swine flu death in Egypt was registered back in July when a 25-year-old Egyptian woman died after returning from pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.

According to the Egyptian Health Ministry, 783 swine flu cases have been registered in the country, of whom 716 people have fully recovered from the illness.

More than 3,200 people have died from swine flu worldwide, with the total number of officially confirmed cases reaching 271,000, a World Health Organization report said on Friday.

Cairo: Egypt yesterday announced the second swine flu-related death of a young woman from a Nile Delta village. The victim was identified as Poussy Al Mursi, a 25-year-old housewife, from the village of Al Masara in Mansoura, some 110km north of Cairo.
Poussy was taken to hospital on Wednesday in a critical condition and lab tests proved that she had contracted swine flu, said Egyptian health authorities.
They added that she was not suffering from any other disease, but her husband returned from Saudi Arabia a few days ago.
