وقد ظهرت على المواطن أعراض ارتفاع فى درجة الحرارة المصحوبة برعشة وذلك عقب عودته من رحلة عمل فى السودان فتم حجزه بالحميات لعلاجه والحصول على عينة منه لإرسالها إلى المعامل المركزية بالقاهرة للتأكد من طبيعة المرض.

وكانت قرية أبوشنب قد شهدت حالة إصابة بالملاريا الخبيثة عندما تعرض حسن عرندس للإصابة بالمرض، واحتجز بمستشفي الحميات للعلاج، وأعلن الدكتور حسين أبوطالب، وكيل وزارة الصحة، حينها، أن المديرية تلقت كشفا بالقادمين من السودان من أبناء الفيوم بينهم 8 من قرية أبوشنب وأنه أجريت الفحوصات الطبية للتأكد من سلامتهم ، فيما أعلنت وزارة الصحة ـ آنذاك ـ أنها فرضت إجراءات وقائية في الموانئ والمطارات للسيطرة علي المرض .

وكان خبراء بوزارة الصحة قد حذروا من تحور بعوضة الملاريا الحميدة الموجودة بجنوب مصر والقادمة من السودان، لتصبح بعوضة الملاريا الخبيثة، وتتسبب فى تفشى الأوبئة القاتلة بين المواطنين.
