وأكدت مصادر رسمية أن هناك فجوة بين المعروض والاستهلاك تصل إلى نحو نصف مليون دجاجة، إذ يبلغ الإنتاج المحلى ١.٥ مليون دجاجة، بينما يصل الاستهلاك إلى مليونى دجاجة، وتتراوح أسعار الدواجن بين ١٦ و١٨ جنيهاً للكيلو، وهناك مخاوف من ارتفاعها بسبب زيادة الاستهلاك خلال شهر رمضان.

وذكرت المصادر أن إعفاء واردات الدواجن من الجمارك سيسهم فى خفض أسعارها ويدفع أصحاب المزارع إلى خفض أسعارهم، لافتة إلى أن الفارق بين سعر الدواجن المستوردة يتساوى حاليا مع المحلية بسبب ارتفاع الجمارك.
