Egypt crisis: Malaysian evacuees leave for Jeddah

*Malaysians in strife-torn Egypt are safe and gathered in large groups, with sufficient food supply, says PM?s political secretary Datuk Shahlan Ismail who is now in Egypt.

KUALA LUMPUR: The first flight carrying Malaysians evacuated from crisis-torn Egypt took off from Cairo to Jeddah on Thursday.

The prime minister's political secretary Datuk Shahlan Ismail said earlier the aircraft would then return to Cairo to resume the mission.
Shahlan is now in Cairo to monitor the situation in the troubled city on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's orders.

He added that there would be 12 flights mounted out of Egypt Friday by aircraft belonging to the Malaysian air force, Malaysia Airlines and AirAsia.
