مرر نوابُ الأغلبية "الحزب الوطني" بمجلس الشعب قرار رئيس الجمهورية بمد العمل بقانون الطوارئ عامين، بدءًا من يونيو القادم، وحتى مايو2010م، أو لمدةٍ تنتهي بصدور قانون الإرهاب بـ305 أصوات مقابل 103 أصوات يمثلون نواب الكتلة البرلمانية للإخوان المسلمين والمستقلين والمعارضة أعلنوا رفضهم لمدِّ حالة الطوارئ، بلغت نسبة الحضور أثناء التصويت 408 عضوًا، أكَّد الدكتور فتحي سرور (رئيس مجلس الشعب) أنَّ المادة 140 من الدستور لا تشترط أغلبية مطلقة للموافقة على مد قانون الطوارئ.
