Statement of the Supreme National Committee to Combat Bird Flu, 5/9/2006

The ministerial committee chaired by Minister of Health Dr. Hatem el-Gabali established to follow up the spread of bird flu in Egypt has reviewed all measures taken to combat the deadly H5N1 virus as follows:

First: 38 specimens for persons involved with bird activities or work at farms which tested positive to bird flu were taken from the governorates of Damietta, Qalyubiya and Giza. All specimens tested negative to bird flu.

Daily report on the spread of the H5N1 virus among birds:

1 ? Damietta: One case among the birds was reported there. All infected birds were culled. All involved persons were checked and all specimens tested negative.

2- Giza: One case among the birds was reported there. All infected birds were culled. All involved persons were checked and all specimens tested negative.

Second: daily report on the spread of the H5N1 virus among birds:

1 ? Sohag: One case among the birds was reported there. All infected birds were culled. All involved persons were checked and all specimens tested negative.

2- Damietta: One case among the birds was reported there. All infected birds were culled. All involved persons were checked and all specimens tested negative.

No new cases of infections were reported to the Central Veterinary Lab. No more infected sites were appeared in the governorates where infections had been previously reported.
