Better information......

Egypt: avian influenza situation - WHO update 8
-----------------------------------------------
As of Thu 18 May 2006, the Ministry of Health in Egypt has confirmed the
country's 14th case of human infection with the H5N1 avian influenza virus.
The case occurred in a 75 year old woman from the Al Minya governorate. She
developed symptoms on 11 May and died on 18 May 2006.

As with all other cases in Egypt, her infection has been linked to exposure
to diseased birds. Of the 14 cases in Egypt, 6 have been fatal.

Hope that helps...

Two more bird flu spots found in Alexandria, Beni Sweif
19/10/2006

Two new bird flu spots were discovered among domestic fowls in Alexandria and Beni Sweif. Dr. Abdel-Rahman Shaheen, spokesman for Ministry of Health and Population, said Wednesday joint teams from the ministry and the veterinary services authority and policemen in Alexandria and Beni Sweif were destroying all birds inside the two areas after the analysis of samples in the area tested positive.

He added that the areas were being checked to make sure that the disease no longer exists. However, no human infections with the deadly H5Nl virus strain have been detected among those living close to the infected poultry.

Ministry of Health confirms negativity of the suspected cases 02/11/2006

The Ministries of Health and Environment and all the bird flu-concerning authorities are continuing their protective procedures and follow-up any infection case in the governorates besides their campaigns of awareness, fearing the return of the disease.

The Ministry of Health made it clear that there are only 15 bird flu human infection since the disease was discovered in March. 7 cases were dead of which the last one was registered on 30/10/2006 in the City of Sammanoud, Gharbiya Governorate. The bird flu mortality rate reached 46%, a low percentage than the world record of 55%.

Now, there are no other human infected cases than the announced ones, Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Mageed, General Manager of the Abbasiya Thorax Hospital said. The daily announced cases are only suspected, not the final result of infection, he added.

The Ministry of Health finalized the training of 9.000 personnel of the concerned ministries in 18 governorates to quickly contain the disease and activating the epidemic detection of it, particularly that now the immigrating birds could reach, as stated by the Ministry of Environment one million birds.

The Ministry of Environment completed preparations of the Autumn season, the birds immigration season to Egypt, as random samples of 5.000 birds will be taken to be tested in cooperation with the American Research Unit of NAMERO and other well-trained cadres in the Ministry of Environment.

Engineer Mohammed Ibrahim, Chief Commander of the Reserves confirmed the banning of the wild hunting, calling citizens to stop breeding domestic birds, at least during this period.

Yesterday, Engineer Ahmed Mohammed Abdul-Qadir, 63 years old, on pension, living in the Oguizzi area in Tanta Governorate was kept in the hospital for being suspected bird flu infected. He was primarily given a dose of the Tamiflu medication until the final analysis be released.

The answer is no, she is not counted in the WHO confirmed total of H5H1 infected individuals in Egypt. There is no way to determine how many of the other individuals, if any, that tested "negative" actually were infected with H5N1.
