International media report a suspected human case of H5N1 avian influenza in Sharkia province; Egyptian health officials cited in media reports suggest that the man may have contracted the disease from rabbits. The affected individual worked at El Zakazik hospital as an accountant but raised rabbits on his roof. Both human and rabbit samples have been submitted for testing. In addition to this case, national and international media sources have reported Ministry of Agriculture announcements of three foci of H5N1 avian influenza in Alexandria, Dumyat, and Al Qalyubiyah. A state of emergency has been declared in Alexandria following the detection of the virus; the implications of this declaration have not been made clear.
Thanks for that info! Note that the news reports also said that the man tested neg.A throat swab from this patient was tested by the Ministry of Health Central Public Health Labs using Real-Time PCR. This lab is reliable.The test was negative.
