John Gibson
GIBSON, John Donovan August 4, 1949 - November 27, 2009 On Friday afternoon of November 27, 2009 John Donovan Gibson, of the Tofield area, passed away at age 60 in the Misericordia Hospital. John is survived by his daughters, Tina Gibson, and Debbie (Will) Clarke, both of Penticton, BC, and four grandchildren, Stacy, Karlie, Kayden, and Afton. John also leaves his sister Sharon (Frank) Blair of Edmonton, his brothers, Frank (Rose-Mari) Gibson of Grande Prairie, AB, and Boyd (Susane) Gibb, of High Prairie, AB, numerous family members, and those of you who knew you were his friend. John considered his Aunt Alice O'Sullivan, his nephew Kurt Shaw, and his brother-in-law Frank Blair, all to be longtime trusted friends, as well as being relatives. John was predeceased by his father, Frank Donovan Gibson in 1951, his twin brother Ernest in 1982, his sister Lorraine in 1994, his niece Corely Fischer in 1995, his partner Mary Joyes in 2003, and his mother Lucy Gibb on September 4, 2009. John died on his grandfather's birthday, his name also John Gibson. The family sends a sincere thank you to the nurses of the CCU and the ICU and the other physical therapy staff who worked with John, for the excellent care they gave him and the respect they showed him and his family. A special thank you to Chaplain Darlene Pranke from Spiritual Care for her kind support after John died and the prayer she did at his bedside. During John's almost 3-week ordeal, which included pneumonia and the H1N1 virus, on top of his pre-existing heart disease and COPD, the only truly bright spot for him was the three days his daughters spent at his bedside, after they flew in from Penticton to be with him. At John's request, no formal service will be held. Cremation has taken place. Donations in John's memory can be made to the South Cooking Lake Cemetery, 51318 Range Road 212, Sherwood Park, AB T8G 1G1. John's remains will be interred in his father's grave there. The epitaph on the headstone of the Irish writer, Jonathan Swift, reads: "where fierce Indignation can no longer injure his Heart".
