3 cases of H1N1 in a local district
School officials sent home letter to parents Wednesday.
TRENTON ? Edgewood City Schools sent home letters to parents Wednesday, Sept. 2, that three students have the first confirmed cases of the H1N1 virus in the district.
In a posting to its Web site Wednesday, the district said the virus was present in two students at Babeck Elementary School and one at Edgewood Middle School. A local doctor notified the district of the cases Wednesday, according to Superintendent Larry Knapp.
The district also sent out e-mails to parents, said John Thomas, the district?s spokesman, who said Wednesday night the cases represent a small number of the total student population at either building. He said there are about 500 students at the elementary school and 900 at the middle school.
?The Board of Health and the Edgewood district continues to strongly recommend if your child has any symptoms of the flu including fever, body aches, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, or vomiting or diarrhea, please keep them home from school and contact your health care provider so they can determine if further testing is needed,? the online bulletin states.
The district has not closed schools, but officials say they will be monitoring the situation and maintain contact with local and state health officials.
According to the online message: ?The Board of Health has indicated that no additional follow-up in Edgewood is necessary.?
