Quito, March 29 .- The Ministry of Health of Ecuador began a national campaign of vaccination against human influenza, which reach more than a million people, in order to prevent the spread of H1N1 virus.
The campaign started by workers in the public health sector throughout the country and from next week will be extended to those who have registered to be vaccinated.
The Ministry of Health aims to vaccinate a little more than a million of the 13 million inhabitants in the country. Director of Health of the province of Pichincha (Quito), Bernardo Salazar said Monday that vaccines have a 95 percent efficiency and added that their only effect will be reddening of the skin at the site of inoculation and mild signs of fever.
The Ecuadorian government asked a million 50 thousand vaccines for human influenza virus to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), of which have migrated to 445 thousand units and the other will do this week.
From next week, health officials plan to expand vaccination to those most vulnerable, to what they have been receiving applications from the town for several days.
The death toll caused by human influenza in Ecuador since the pandemic broke out in mid 2009 and until 22 January, was 117, while the cases confirmed until late December of that year exceeded one thousand 100.
So far this year, until early February, figures from the Ministry of Health reported three deaths and 193 confirmed cases. (Con informaci?n de Notimex / MVC)
