Second suspected case of monkeypox in Ecuador is ruled out

The negative result of the suspected case was known this Wednesday, June 15. The National Institute of Public Health Research (INSPI) was in charge of carrying out the analyses .

A day earlier, on June 14, the Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, reported on the new suspected case. She explained that she was detected on Sunday June 12 at the Cayambe canton hospital , Pichincha province.

It was a young patient who did not record any trip abroad and presented symptoms such as fever, weakness , malaise and vesicles on the skin.

The epidemiological fence of the young man and his contacts was immediately carried out . In addition, samples were taken for analysis from him.

Known the results, the Ministry ratified that until this June 15 in the country there is no case of monkeypox.

This is the second case that is discarded by the authorities. The first was detected on May 27.

The Ministry of Health reported that it was an Ecuadorian man who arrived in Quito from Africa. He presented symptoms related to the disease, such as fever and skin lesions.

However, three days later, on May 30, Minister Ximena Garzón indicated that the progress of her clinical picture means that it is ruled out that it is monkeypox.
