EPIDEMIOLOGICAL COMMENTS
A positive case for Eastern equine encephalomyelitis (EEE) was detected in a race horse at a racetrack in the province of Guayas. The animal showed very significant neurological signs, with 41°C fever, ataxia, weakness and nystagmus. Due to the severity of the signs, the horse was finally killed and disposed of. According to the information provided, the horse was not vaccinated against EEE and always remained on the racetrack premises. Vector control and disinfection measures were carried out. The premises are currently under quarantine and epidemiological surveillance will continue in the areas near the affected premises.
