A fifth death - H1N1 in Loja

The Provincial Health Directorate of Loja called upon citizens to comply with preventive measures to avoid complications.
The authorities of the Provincial Health Department said that in Loja province of the south there was a fatality in a new influenza A - H1-N1, thereby also scored five fatalities.

This is a woman of 55 years native of Canton Catamayo. They reported that his death was not complying with the necessary health procedures in these cases.

AH1N1 leaves 44 deaths in the country
The WHO said the virus has not mutated. However, influenza experts said that 'widely circulated'.


AH1N1 virus leaves more deaths in Ecuador. Deputy Health Minister, Marcelo Aguilar, confirmed yesterday that so far recorded 44 victims nationwide.

The last case is the journalist Francisco Duarte, 47, who lived in Santo Domingo de los Ts?chilas. His death occurred yesterday at 11:00 at the Eugenio Espejo Hospital, Quito. According to reports from his colleagues, Duarte fell ill with an apparent cold in the first week of August.

Nereis Alcivar, a stooge of the Development Training Center, Duarte recalled that he said was injected an antibiotic against colds. On 13 August, the journalist went and into a local clinic for 24 hours.

At the hospital suggested that he be transferred to the Hospital Eugenio Espejo. Duarte, far from improving, became worse and fell into a coma. His body could not resist the disease.

Another partner, Erika Samaniego, said she did not think they were AH1N1 virus. "Otherwise we'd all be sick, but nothing has happened." She also said that the wife of Duarte, Liliana Mejia and his sons Francisco and Gabriela once had a cold but not recovered and were infected with influenza.

The provincial health director, Jaime Jaramillo, said in Santo Domingo there are 1 980 Tamiflu treatments available that are distributed to hospitals and health centers.

In the world, so far recorded 2 837 victims. However, the WHO said yesterday that AH1N1 flu has not become more severe.

In Latin America, countries like Ecuador, Venezuela, Peru and Brazil account for more than respiratory diseases, while outbreaks of pandemic influenza appear to have passed its peak in Chile and Argentina.

Japan experienced an early onset of flu season, while in the U.S. and Canada Influenza activity is low.

Influenza-A: 60 deaths and 1,175 confirmed cases in Ecuador

According to Ministry of Health, to this day, 1,175 cases of influenza have been confirmed AH1N1 in the country, while the official number of dead is 60.


Most laboratory-confirmed cases recorded in Guayas, where 337 cases were recorded as positive, followed by Pichincha, with 286 cases. They are followed by the provinces of Loja, with 117 cases; Manabi, with 69 cases, Azuay, with 60 cases, 48 cases Chimborazo, El Oro with 46 cases, and the Galapagos with 19 cases.
Other provinces reported lower numbers of infection.

The age groups most affected by influenza-A are still children 1 to 9 years, adolescents aged 10 to 14 years and youths between 15 and 29 years (representing 75.5% of total patients).

The report adds that sixty deaths in the country, 19 occurred in Pichincha, 11 in Guayas, Loja 7, 4 in Chimborazo, 4 in El Oro, Manabi 4, 3 in Tungurahua, Azuay 3, 1 Cotopaxi, 1 in Los Rios, 1 in Saskatchewan Yukon, 1 in Imbabura and 1 in Galapagos.

Quito .- The Ministry of Health of Ecuador confirmed today that the total number of infected influenza A/H1N1 thousand came to 834, since the first confirmed case on 15 May, with 82 dead so far.It has been confirmed cases in 25 provinces of Ecuador, with the highest incidence in the two most populous, Pichincha and Guayas, where are the cities of Quito and Guayaquil respectively.

With the start of the school year in September in the mountains, cases of infection among schoolchildren has increased considerably, with at least 727 cases in children under 15 years

Quito, Feb 18 (EFE) .- A total of 173 cases were positive for influenza A in Ecuador while 3 people were killed by the virus in the first five weeks of this year, confirmed Wednesday the Health Ministry.A total of 173 laboratory-confirmed cases, the largest number recorded in the province of Guayas, with 87, followed by those of Pichincha, Los R?os, with 19 cases each, according to the ministry report to court on 12 February.

They are followed by the provinces of Azuay, with 14 cases, and Manabi, with 11, while in the other provinces the incidence is lower.

In the age range, the ministry confirmed that 65 of those infected range from 1 to 4 years, followed by 20 between 5 and 9, among others.

Of the three deaths from the H1N1 virus in the first five weeks, 2 were in Guayas province, whose capital is Guayaquil, the country's most populous city and one in Los Rios.

The year-end report of the ministry regarding influenza A in 2009 realized a total of 2,112 laboratory-confirmed positive cases and 103 people killed by the virus.
A total of 2112 confirmed cases, most occurred in the province of Pichincha, with 739 infected, followed by that of Guayas, with 437 cases, the report of the ministry to court Dec. 30.

The greatest number of deaths from the H1N1 virus was recorded in 2009 in Pichincha, whose capital is Quito, with 36 cases, followed by Guayas, with 16 cases.
