[h=2]What is the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection for the EU/EEA and UK population?[/h] The risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection for the EU/EEA and UK population in Europe is currently low.
This assessment is based on the following factors:
  • Probability of infection for the EU/EEA and UK population is considered very low. While there have been both imported and locally acquired cases reported from seven EU/EEA countries and from the UK, the overall number of cases reported in the area remains low, and containment measures are in place. There are, however, uncertainties regarding transmissibility and under-detection, particularly among mild or asymptomatic cases.
  • If an infection is acquired, the impact for the infected person is considered high. For the population, the impact of one or more infections resulting in sustained transmission would be moderate to high. Information on case severity and the effectiveness of control measures remains very limited. Data reported as of 12 February account for 45 179 confirmed cases, including 1 115 deaths.
[h=2]What is the risk of SARS-CoV-2 infection for the EU/EEA and UK population travelling/resident in areas with presumed ongoing community transmission?[/h] The risk for EU/EEA and UK nationals travelling/resident in areas with presumed ongoing community transmission is currently high.
This assessment is based on the following factors:
  • Probability of infection for those travelling/resident in areas with community transmission is considered moderate to high. The overall number of reported cases in areas with community transmission is high or increasing sharply. The exposed community is highly susceptible to the pathogen, which creates a high probability of pathogen transmission. However, there are significant uncertainties regarding transmissibility and under-detection, particularly among mild or asymptomatic cases.
  • If an infection is acquired, the impact for the infected person is considered high. For travellers/residents in areas with community transmission, the impact of one or more infections is also considered high. Information on case severity and the effectiveness of control measures remains very limited. Data reported as of 12 February account for 45 179 confirmed cases, including 1 115 deaths.
