Two people with Ebola-like symptoms are in isolation after showing up separately at hospitals in Ottawa and Belleville, Ont.

One patient arrived at The Ottawa Hospital's General campus on Sunday and was immediately placed in isolation, Ottawa Public Health confirmed to CBC News on Monday.

The patient had recently visited a West African country where Ebola has been reported.

Samples from the patient have been sent to the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg for testing, and results are expected by 6 p.m. ET Monday.

The patient is "doing well" and under observation, the hospital said in a news release.

I found it interesting that the nurses in Ontario are questioning whether or not Ebola can spread through the air. Bolding is mine.

But the head of the Ontario Nurses Association said there is no consensus on whether or not Ebola can spread through the air. Linda Haslam-Stroud argued that someone could inhale tiny airborne particles if exposed to them long enough in an enclosed space.

"Aerosol transmission has not been ruled out and this is the fundamental disagreement that we're having right now with the government and we're working with the government to try to resolve," she said.

When are people going to start calling ahead??? Common sense tells me that if I suspected I had ebola, I wouldn't leave the house without calling the hospital and discussing what was the least-transmission method I should take to get care.

Exactly. If I thought that I might have something contagious - especially deadly contagious - I would not go into a hospital waiting room. Or Doctors office for that matter

The patient in Ottawa has tested negative. According to the linked article he did call ahead. Still awaiting the results on the Belleville patient.

The hospital received a call before the patient arrived to allow staff to prepare for the arrival, and special steps are being taken at the hospital to protect staff and other patients.

Patient with Ebola-like symptoms at Belleville General Hospital

"...arrived at Belleville General Hospital around 3 a.m. Monday morning and told staff he had developed symptoms consistent with Ebola – including fever and diarrhea – after travelling abroad which included a short stop in Sierra Leone.

The patient was isolated immediately. Doctors say the man was in Sierra Leone for less than one day. Doctors revealed few personal details about the patient. They did say he is not a healthcare worker but would not confirm if the patient is a member of the military..."

Ottawa case is negative and this Belleville case was listed as low, but not zero risk. Canadian Forces Base Trenton is Belleville's neighbour.

It has now been reported that the Belleville patient is a member of the Canadian Forces and was in Sierra Leone less than 24 hours. There was a flight from CFB Trenton to Sierra Leone (just minutes from Belleville) on October 6th although officials have not confirmed if this patient was on that flight. Although this could be anything, the timeline and symptoms are concerning.

Multiple sources confirm that the Belleville patient has tested negative for Ebola.

Ontario patient tests negative for Ebola

An Ontario patient has tested negative for Ebola after he was put in isolation at Belleville General Hospital. . . . .

Because he presented symptoms including chills, muscle aches and mild diarrhea, he was isolated less than five minutes after arriving at the hospital.

Samples were taken from the patient and rushed to a national laboratory in Winnipeg. Late Tuesday night, the Belleville hospital confirmed the patient did not have Ebola.

The patient had recently returned from West Africa and arrived in the QHC Belleville General Hospital emergency room early Monday with some symptoms common with the Ebola virus. Samples were tested by the National Microbiology Lab in Winnipeg and results came back clear late Tuesday. . . .
