This is fairly old news (18 September 2014) but I'm recording it here, because at some point, the issue is likely to come to the fore with real cases of Ebola at sea being refused port landing. So far as I could gather, this one was a false alarm, but in future, it may not be.

This sounds like history repeating itself.

The term "quarantine" came from the imposed 40 days ships would be banned from docking during which any diseases present in the crew would become apparent.

The ship Malta refused, the Western Copenhagen, went on to its next port but is now just sitting in a corner of the Black Sea, not docked and not going anywhere.

The Marine Phoenix, the New Orleans ship, has been missing off of AIS (the location tracking system) for twelve days.

Ming, you'll notice that that link hasn't been updated since October 2nd. Today is October 14th so she has had no location information for twelve days now. Also, the map location for October 2nd shows the Marine Phoenix had left the port at St. Eustatius and was heading out of the Caribbean and into the Atlantic.

There is current information on the Western Copenhagen but she has just been sitting in the Black Sea for a while (I don't know how many days, sorry). The text says she's "in port" but the AIS tracker shows her sitting in the water off the coast of Russia so she's not docked at any port.

Since the last AIS report of the Marine Phoenix off the coast of west Africa on October 14th, nothing has been heard from her. She's been off of AIS for more than two weeks now.
