Early flu season keeping students home from school

Flu season is back, and the Coweta County School System is trying to take a pro-active approach this year.

"We are seeing an increase in influenza and other seasonal illnesses in county schools," said Dean Jackson, public information officer for the Coweta County School System.

"Flu, strep throat, stomach virus and other illnesses have increased lately, starting before Thanksgiving and picking up again last week and this week," he said.

"Unusually high rates of flu-like illness are being reported for this time of year, and most cases are in children," said Henderson.
