OUR CORRESPONDENT
Dhubri, Jan. 14: A bird flu alert has been sounded in the South Salmara-Mancachar sub-division of Dhubri and Goalpara districts following outbreak of the disease in Williamnagar in East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya a few days back.

Dhubri district veterinary officer Moqbul Hussain said routes from Meghalaya to Dhubri district of Assam were kept under close watch so that no affected fowl is brought in.

?Normally birds go to West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya from Dhubri district. Still as precautionary measures, we have instructed the sub-divisional veterinary officer to keep a watch on supply of birds from any part of Meghalaya to the sub-division,? Hussain added.

Goalpara district has promulgated Section 144 CrPC to ban entry of birds from East and West Garo Hills to the district. Additional deputy commissioner Utpal Sarma said this was taken as a preventive measure.
