We may have vaccination campaigns from September until December to try to break this contamination," said Dr. Claude Bahizire, communications officer at the South Kivu Health Directorate.
During the launch of the integrated Measles, Rubella and Polio campaign in South Kivu, the WHO representative revisited this case while calling for vigilance from residents.
"In South Kivu, recent results have confirmed two cases of cVDPV2 in the Kitutu health zone with an orphan profile indicating the possibility of silent circulation of the poliovirus," the WHO representative stated at the ceremony.
According to the WHO epidemiological report, this case was notified in week 31.
The last 5 cases of poliovirus have been recorded in the province of South Kivu since 2023.
