CALL TO ACTION: An epidemic kills more than 3 children a day in the health zone of Pinga in the Province of North Kivu in DR Congo.
For the attention of:
– His Excellency the Military Governor of North Kivu in Goma;
– Provincial Health Division of North Kivu in Goma;
– national and international NGOs;
FDAPID alerts the Congolese government and particularly the Military Governor and North Kivu health authorities to an epidemic that is killing children in the Pinga health zone. According to our teams in the field, more than 3 children lose their lives every day following a disease that manifests with symptoms of high fever, rash, mouth sores and itchy skin. This epidemic is appearing in more than one health area in the Pinga health zone because there are several cases reported in Mutongo, capital of the Ihana group (30 km away) while the medical structures do not do not have the ability to respond.
The FDAPID team is concerned and calls on the Congolese government to act urgently to spare children from this serious threat.
In all diligence, FDAPID proposes the following measures:
– Dispatch a response team with the necessary materials and drugs to support the efforts of the health care personnel in the Pinga health zone;
– To carry out a study on the origin of this epidemic which kills children and to put in place preventive measures.
Done in Goma, on 08/04/2023.
