The Moba health zone (Tanganyika) recorded three deaths among the 159 cases of measles reported since the beginning of this year. This information was delivered on Monday, February 24 by the chief medical officer of the health zone, Dr. Ricky Mbayo, during the launch of the vaccination campaign against this disease.
At the launch of this campaign, Dr. Ricky Mbayo called on parents to vaccinate their children aged 6 to 59 months. He announced that hundreds of cases of measles were also recorded in 2024, including a few deaths.
" Since August last year, in the 33rd week until the end of the year, the different health areas have recorded several cases. There were a total of 369 cases of measles including 7 children. I would like to ask you that we cannot lose children again like last year or as we have already lost children since the beginning of this year because of measles, if we, the parents, have our children vaccinated ," insisted the chief doctor of the Moba health zone.
This vaccination campaign will last 5 days. It is organized by the Moba health zone with the support of Médecins sans frontières France.

South Kivu: Nearly 224 cases of measles and 7 deaths recorded, the Kalole health zone remains the most affected (OCHA)
Thursday, February 27, 2025 - 4:09 p.m.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (OCHA) has warned of a worsening of the measles epidemic, with cases continuing to increase in South Kivu, where 224 cases and 7 deaths have been recorded among the displaced population since the resumption of armed conflict in this part of the country.
OCHA says Kalole health zone alone is the worst affected, with 101 cases and four deaths in the week of 2-8 February (week 6) compared to 123 cases and three deaths in the week of 26 January-1 February 2025.
Faced with this explosion of cases in South Kivu, the World Health Organization (WHO) says it has put in place response measures, which include the isolation and treatment of affected people, as well as the distribution of water, hygiene and sanitation kits to the occupants of the camp.
