Kwilu: an as yet unidentified plague decimates small ruminants in several villages in the Imbongo sector
Posted on Mar. 31, 2024 at 12:23 am
For two weeks, an as yet unidentified plague has been raging in several villages in the Imbongo sector, Kwilu province, which is ravaging small ruminants, that is to say, goats and pigs.
Jean Malundu, one of the civil society executives, also a breeder, said the following:
“To date, more than 40 goats as well as 30 pigs have already been taken away. For goats. it all starts with severe diarrhea and then coughing. After one or two days, the animal becomes very weak, as if paralyzed, and then death follows. As for pigs, their skins first become reddish, the animal loses its balance and succumbs,” explains Jean Malundu.
He says the villages affected include Kumbi, Kilwenge, Kinsomi, Mbidi and Kimputu.
“It’s a loss of income for breeders. This situation also threatens food security in this corner of the country,” he complains.
He took this opportunity to attract the attention of the competent authorities in order to come to the aid of breeders in distress.
