DRC: Five suspected cases of yellow fever detected in the Kimputu region, in Kwilu

Monday, August 12, 2024 - 06:54

Five suspected cases of yellow fever were reported in August 2024 in the Kimputu health zone, located in the Idiofa territory, Kwilu province, AFP learned from local sources.

The cases involve children aged five to seven years, from Makumbi health area. Among the five reported cases are two boys and three girls who have presented symptoms characteristic of yellow fever.

The samples taken from the children were sent to the Kikwit branch of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI). From there, they will be transferred to the National Institute for Biomedical Research (INRB) for further analysis, local health authorities said.

Yellow fever, a viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes, is causing concern in the region, and health officials remain on alert to prevent its possible spread.
